Penicillin-G, an important intermediary substance in the manufacture of antibiotics, was largely imported. That is, till SPIC Pharma commenced large-scale Penicillin-G production. Today, SPIC Pharma holds a sizeable 60% share of the Penicillin-G market in India. It was in 1994 that the SPIC group identified antibiotics as a thrust area and built a plant in Cuddalore near Chennai, with an investment of Rs.220 crores to manufacture Penicillin-G pharmagrades & First Crystals. |
