Feed enzymes have an important role to play in current Poultry farming systems. Feed cost constitutes approximately 70 % of the cost of production in Poultry. Enzymes can increase the digestibility of nutrients, leading to greater efficiency in the production of Poultry meat and eggs. Many feed ingredients are not fully digested by Poultry due to the lack of necessary enzymes in sufficient quality. This results in wastage of the nutrients. Enzymes make the nutrients available to the Poultry and at the same time remove the anti nutritional effects associated with some of the feed ingredients. Enzymes catalyze breakdown of non-starch polysaccharides in the feed ingredients and facilitate better weight gain over a shorter period of time. Enzymes help in improving the feed conversion ratio (FCR) by making the unavailable nutrients and vitamins available for the birds. The digestibility of the feed ingredients is also increased by the addition of the enzymes. Feed enzymes play an important role in minimizing the environmental impact of increased Poultry production.
